Fun with Cataracts

I was disappointed when my eye surgeon wanted to do only one eye at a time. I wasn’t looking forward to 6 instead of 3 follow up events in the surgeon’s office. However, I discovered that having one eye with and one eye without a cataract creates a bit of fun.

I realized this when I stared through the holes in my eye patch while brushing my teeth. The woodwork around my mirror was still the bright whitish lavender that I had painted it several years ago.

If I closed my newly good eye and only looked with my un-improved eye, the woodwork was a faded tan. With only the good eye, the brilliance of the lavender was amazing.

So I started around the house, re-looking at all the sherbet colors I had once painted my woodwork. (I had grown bored with the idea that all painted woodwork should be white.)

Amazing! How lovely and bright my woodwork was. Then I stared out my window at the back garden. My un-improved eye saw a hydrangea that had a few cream-colored flowers.

But my good eye recognized the bright blue of the hydrangea and the startling depth of the rose beside it. In this newsletter see the photos of Fringe Flower and Wood Flower – more brilliant colors I can enjoy again. So now, I’m glad to have had one eye done at a time. I know the value of the cataract operation and won’t mind the second improvement of my vision. I’m not too happy about the 6 follow-up visits, but hey, a small price to pay for a more colorful life.
